Patients that would like to schedule an appointment with the Burzynski Clinic are encouraged to give our clinic 1 to 2 weeks advanced notice. This is to ensure you and/or our staff have enough time to obtain all of your medical records, films, and other pertinent information from the clinic and/or hospital that has been providing you treatment. You may sign the “Medical Records Release” form to give our clinic the right to request your medical records for you.
Medical Records that are recommended for this initial evaluation:

- Oncologist/treating doctor notes (especially chemotherapy flow sheet & last dictation)
- Operative/surgical reports
- Radiology reports (CT, PET, MRI, Echocardiogram, etc. and Mammograms if applicable)

Get approved by our Medical Team as a candidate for treatment.
Once you've submitted your information, our expert medical team will review your case to determine if you're a candidate for treatment at Burzynski Clinic. We carefully assess your medical history, diagnostic results, and overall health to ensure that our personalized therapies are the right fit for you. Our team will guide you through the next steps and provide you with all the information you need to make informed decisions about your care.

Schedule your initial consultation and a medical plan for treatment is established.
All patients are required to come to the clinic for their initial consultation visit. At that time, our physicians will provide recommendations for the treatment regimen that will be most suitable for your care.
IMPORTANT: If there are any recent radiological films/CD’s that you have not already delivered to our clinic, it is imperative that you bring them with you to your visit so that the doctors will be able to review them.

Begin Treatment
Get cleared with our finance team, then you can begin your treatment!
If you decide to initiate therapy, you will be able to begin treatment within 2 to 5 days, sometimes sooner, unless additional testing is required. You will be asked to stay in Houston, Texas, for a period of time, which may range from 1 to 3 weeks on an outpatient basis. This is to ensure that you are tolerating the prescribed medications.
Patients who do not have advanced cancer can be treated with medication from the ANP group in tablet form plus a combination of prescription medications which affect mutated genes not covered by ANP. Such treatment typically requires less than one week in Houston.
Advanced cancer patients may benefit from ANP infusions based on Texas Right to Try Law and additional prescription medications which affect mutated genes not covered by ANP. Such patients typically stay in Houston from one to three weeks.
Before you are discharged from our clinic, you will meet with our monitoring staff who will contact you weekly to follow your progress. This will be part of your regular monthly case management recording medications, scans, laboratory tests, and progress as needed to continue your therapy regimen.

Ongoing Adjustments
Responding patients may notice improvement of their symptoms and laboratory tests during the first month of treatment. Radiological evaluation of the results is typically performed after 5 to 12 weeks of treatment. For aggressive brain tumors, MRI of the brain is usually performed after 5 weeks.
Patients who have cancer that has spread to other parts of the body typically require a full body PET/CT scan. It is expected that the scans (MRI, PET/CT) will show improvement, and the treatment will continue for another 2 to 3 months. The average time for complete radiological response is from 2 to 6 months (the tumors are gone). The patients with complete radiological response are advised to have a repeated blood genomic test to see if the mutated genes are gone.
Patients with a negative test are recommended to have a more sensitive blood genomic test to find out if there are any genes in the patient’s blood associated with cancer. Two negative tests of this type are usually required every three months before the treatment is discontinued.
In earlier treatment before gene testing was available, the patients were advised to continue the treatment for 8 months after radiological complete response.
The patients who don’t have improvement on the first follow-up scans have a modification to their treatment plan and repeated scans after 2 to 3 months.

Continuity of Care: Ongoing Monitoring
Once your treatment plan has been fulfilled, you will be discharged from the clinic and will return home to continue treatment with the assistance of your local physician(s). Our team will work closely with your local physician(s) to ensure a seamless handoff of your treatment regimen, providing them with detailed records and ongoing guidance to support your recovery. We remain committed to your well-being, offering continued support through regular follow-up appointments, phone consultations, and monitoring as needed. Your local healthcare providers will be fully equipped to carry on your treatment, while we stay available for any questions or additional guidance throughout your journey.
